Designer Notes
The Schonfeld Club was built in 2008 on a private estate in Old Westbury, NY for a client whose desire was to be able to walk out of his house and play a world class golf course in his backyard with family and friends. This creative and fun layout winds though a mix of open and wooded rolling terrain. It features a diverse selection of teeing areas which create a variety of angles and lengths from which to play each of the par threes, fours and fives holes. The course was designed to allow golfers of all skill levels options to play the golf hole whether it be the ground game or an aerial approach or a blend of the two. This innovative layout’s use of ground contours, varied teeing grounds, a wide range of bunker placement, and diverse greens makes each of the holes unique. The greens are specifically designed to receive an approach shot from a variety of different angles.
The golf course is set on 44 acres of the estate and features 4 greens. This resourceful layout allows for a number of options which include playing a 3 hole, 4 hole or 9 hole loop. These options can be played in a variety of combinations with all returning to the main house. The 9 hole layout could be played in 5 different versions based on the sequence of golf holes selected, resulting in a Par 35 or 36 golf experience that varies in length from 3,050 to 3,350 yards.
In 2011, we returned and added 3 additional greens or 3 golf holes that allowed for even more options on the way golf course could be played. The golfer can actually play a 6,400-6,800 par -70 to 72 course on 64 acres.
This cleverly designed golf course can be played in multiple different configurations as a USGA rated golf course with a wide range of par threes, fours and fives suitable for all golfers. The Schonfeld Club allows each player the ability to create a unique golf experience based on what course they wish to play on any given day.
