Client Course Description

Golf Santander is located 10 miles from the centre of Madrid, in the Grupo Santander City in Boadilla del Monte. A project conceived with the idea of providing the bank’s employees, customers and shareholders, as well as golf enthusiasts, with the very best facilities to encourage the practice of this sport.

This club is owned and operated by Grupo Santander, the third largest financial institution in Europe, primarily for the benefit of the bank’s employees, and also as a larger part of the firm’s tradition of supporting high-profile athletic competitions.

Designer Notes

The Golf Santander golf course is blended seamlessly into the rolling natural terrain surrounding Banco Santander’s new headquarters facility in Boadilla, Spain, a suburb of Madrid. One year after opening, Golf Santander was ranked by Golf Digest as one of the three best courses in Spain.

Rees Jones worked with Spanish superstar Seve Ballesteros, to create a first-rate tournament-ready layout on a site outside the nation’s capital. The course opened for play in 2005. The course was built on a reclaimed garbage dump and was restored into a favorable environment for native flora and fauna, and the thousands of trees and shrubs that were planted during construction are beginning to mature. At 6856 meters, the course is one of the longest in Spain, but a range of a half dozen different tees is provided to accommodate players’ various skill levels. Abundant water in the form of ponds and creeks keeps things interesting.
