Client Course Description

Sprawling over 180 acres of picturesque coastline, the world-class Playa Grande Golf And Ocean Club, designed by celebrated architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr., is known as “the Pebble Beach of the Caribbean” by the golf community.

With 10 holes playing directly on the ocean, this 7,085-yard course winds along the coastline, providing amazingly open vistas, cliff-side fairways, and sloping greens.

With respect for the legacy created by his father, world-renowned golf designer Rees Jones and Bryce Swanson renovated the Playa Grande Golf And Ocean Club to enhance the golfing experience and challenge golfers at every skill level.

Designer Notes

2013-15 – Overlooking the crescent-shaped Playa Grande Beach, regarded as one of the most beautiful in the Caribbean, Rees Jones, Inc. finished a complete renovation of this Robert Trent Jones, Sr. course. We were given the opportunity to create an even more dramatic routing with ten holes playing directly on the ocean.  The entire golf course was rebuilt and the 8 holes on the back nine we re-routed to create space for the new Aman resort and to improve the back nine experience. The result is golfers are treated to one of the best finishes in golf with the last five holes playing along the ocean  – which includes the dog-leg right par-5 on the 14th hole that allows golfers to finish on the cliff’s edge overlooking the beach, resort and ocean. From there, the final four holes play along the rocky cliffs — high above the ocean. The final hole is a risk/reward par-5 – which requires the player to choose a shot from one cliff to another and over a cove of water in order to reach the green in two or take the safer three shot route around the ocean.

2018 – Discovery Land Company entered into a partnership to further develop Playa Grande and brought on Rees Jones, Inc. to make further improvements, elevating the golf course to world class status. Additional improvements included rerouting the fifth hole to create room for surrounding development, upgrading the bunkers, landscape improvements and we created a unique set of forward tees that allow players to enjoy a fun short course experience within the original layout. All fairway and green surrounds were sand capped and the golf course planted with paspalum turf.
