Rees Jones, award winning golf course architect talked with us on his vision and thoughts on the renovation tied to the reversing of the nines at East Lake Golf Club for this past year’s TOUR Championship. Mr. Jones was originally hired for the first major renovation to East Lake GC in 1994 and has been a part of every change since then.
Adding some “teeth” to the new finishing holes was key and was a big part of the renovation. Lengthening of 16 and 17 needed to be done. The new 18th hold is now a Par 5 that with the right drive will allow players to go for the green in two. However, with the surround’s of 18 green renovated, the players may think twice before starring down the 240 yards left.
